Have Your Say about Australian Politics

As Australian citizens,  through out our life-time, in an almost cyclical fashion, we experience Politics in one way or another - political campaigns, voting, feeling optimism about the new leader to being disappointed once again.  Many of us have become seasoned and perhaps even benumbed to the behaviour and actions of some of our political representatives and their leadership. Yet, whether we like it or not, our lives are intricately linked and affected by the principles and practices of the government of the day.

As is the case in a democratic system, where your vote counts and is critical in deciding who is to be elected, so do I believe that your appraisal of the way in which Australia is being governed, is equally significant. Your evaluation has the power to bring about change as it empowers others to assert their viewpoint and, as a collective, to effect that change.   I therefore, invite you, in relation to any aspect of Australian Politics, voice your viewpoint, be it positive or negative.  Dr Carmen Lawrence in her Paper, "Renewing Democracy: Can Women Make a Difference?" challenges us to work towards a "new democracy"  I hope that you see this as a serious avenue to discuss and explore what needs to be addressed to apply a comprehensive definition of democracy to our political system, rather than accept it in the compromised form that it is in.

Thank you.
