Professor Dinham’s presentation
How to Get Your School Moving
and Improving presented to the Australian College of Educators
on 27 May 2009 challenges the view that schools make almost no
difference to student achievement, which is largely influenced by
socio-economic status, family circumstances and innate ability.
Based on research which has refuted this view, Dinham details his
insights on how teachers, teaching and schools make a significant
difference to student success. He focuses on Four Fundamentals:
-
Student Learning and Achievement
-
Quality Teaching in Action
-
Leadership for Quality Teaching and Learning
-
Professional Learning
With strategies on how to implement changes in these four areas, Dinham asserts that quality teaching does matter and that leadership in school enables the success of outcomes focused on students as learners and people.
