Postgraduate Education Loans Scheme (PELS)

PELS is an interest-free loans facility for eligible students who are enrolled in fee-paying, postgraduate non-research courses. It is similar to the deferred payment arrangements available under the Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS). PELS enables eligible students to obtain a loan from the Commonwealth Government to pay all or part of their tuition fees incurred from 2002 onwards. It is available for both commencing and continuing students. The Commonwealth pays the amount of the loan directly to the student’s institution. Students repay their loan through the taxation system once their income reaches the minimum threshold for compulsory repayment.

The Foundation for Young Australians Grants

The Foundation for Young Australians is calling for expressions of interest for the funding of initiatives that create opportunities for young people aged between 12 and 25. Springboard Grants are for projects that enhance the self esteem of young people, break entrenched cycles or improve the "connectedness" of young people to their family, peers, schools and communities. One of The Foundation's core principles is to involve young people in the design, implementation, management and evaluation of initiatives that address their needs. At least 20% of total funding is committed to programs that benefit Indigenous young people.

The Foundation is focusing on:

  • Creating opportunities for young people to participate fully in the community;

  • Extending early assistance to help young people reach their potential;

  • Supporting innovative initiatives through a seed-funding model;

  • Building the organisational capacity of grant recipients and other organisations in the youth sector.
