How to Lobby - Part 1 |
How to use email lists
The easiest, quickest and cheapest way to get your message to someone is by email.
When you want to send your message to a number of people, email lists are the way to go.
You can compile your own list or use some of the key lobbying lists available.
Whatever you decide, its important to remember that in many ways, 'the medium is the message' - which in this case means that if the recipient gets an email with a huge list of other recipients at the top, they are likely to see it as just another campaign, and disregard it. On the other hand, if they get an email personally addressed to them, its likely to get a better reception.
So it is important to take a bit of time and set up the process that will deliver personalised messages to each recipient.
Bcc field (Blind Carbon Copy)
BCC ensures confidentiality, so that no one is able to see the other person's email address.
Open up a new email and in the address box at the top you will see
To:
From:
Cc:
Bcc:
Attach
You are going to put your list into the Bcc filed
There are two ways of doing this:
1. The easiest way is to copy the list you want, open your email address book, create a new nickname, then paste it in.
When you are ready to send the message, just click on the Bcc button at the bottom of the nickname list. (But remember, you need to finish your message first, because its likely to run off the page if the list is long).

2. The other way is to put the list directly into the Bcc field at the top of your message. If you use this method, remember to put a comma and a space between each address.
